"An exhilarating spiritual adventure about tapping
into the natural sacred energies of the earth." In 1989, Elizabeth Jenkins was living in San Francisco, working on a doctorate in clinical psychology. Although her life seemed full, she felt empty, and yearned for some deeper meaning. She traveled to Peru, telling herself that she wanted to research little-known Andean healing practices, but really searching for answers to questions about her own spirituality, her own healing. In Cuzco, gateway to the sacred mountains of Machu Picchu, Elizabeth began to follow the voice of her intuition. She became the only North American admitted into a group of native Peruvians working with an Andean master. But when bitter divisions broke that group apart, she knew that she had not yet found the teacher she was seeking. Then, in a flash of synchronicity, she was introduced to Juan Nunez del Prako, an initiated priest of the Andean Path. Juan explained to her that there were many levels of understanding along the Path, and that she had barely begun. With Juan as her guide, Elizabeth would experience the stages of initiation into one of the oldest sacred traditions in the world. During grueling days in the high Andes she learded to feel the energies of nature around her, and to balance its forces within her own body until she felt at one with the world. After her initiation, Elizabeth committed herself to teaching others about this extraordinary spiritual tradition. With Juan, she has led other Westerners through the steps of initiation. Now, in this book, she unveils her own journey and the mysteries of the Andean Path to seekers throughout the world. Elizabeth B. Jenkins is a licensed family counselor living near San Francisco. A frequent speaker to groups interested in psychology and spiritual experience, she most recently spoke to the eight hundred people attending the International Transpersonal Association conference in Brazil. She is founder and director of the Wiraqocha Foundation for the Preservation of Indigenous Wisdom, and is a contributor to SHAMAN'S DRUM magazine. Contents One day, when Don Manuel and I were out for a walk at a ruin called Moray, we were watching many men repairing an Inka wall. They were working on the restoration of that archaeological site. I asked Don Manuel what he thought about their work, and he said simply: "They are preparing the house of the Inka for the time when he will return." These workmen knew nothing of the Andean prophecy; they thought they were carrying out the task assigned to them in order to earn their daily wage. But from the perspective of Don Manuel, an Andean priest, they are carrying out a mystical task. "We shall have to wait," he said, laughing,
"to discover who is right." You can order Intitiation from Amazon.com |
